All V€LAD denim is selvedge — jeans, jackets and sets, plain or paint-splattered. It's the same fabric throughout, so it's cared for the same way.
Information About the Material
- The fabric shapes to your body when you wear it — creases, wear and colour changes happen naturally over time.
- The untreated surface makes the product very strong and hard to damage or tear.
Selvedge denim gives off extra dye (indigo). This is called bleeding, and it can rub off on light furniture, shoes, bags and clothing. Be careful with white sneakers or t-shirts, especially the first 4–8 times you wear them.
Because of this, we recommend washing the denim carefully — and only when really needed.
Instead of Washing
- Hang them outside overnight to air out.
- Put them in the freezer in a plastic bag for 24–48 hours to remove smell-causing bacteria.
The Best Way to Wash — Hand Wash
Wash in a basin or bathtub with cold water.
- Turn the denim inside out.
- Fill the basin with cold water.
- Soak the jeans for 30 minutes — 45 minutes maximum.
- Move them gently in the water.
- Rinse well with cold water.
- Gently press out the water — do not twist.
- Hang to dry, not in direct sunlight.
Never tumble dry, and keep the denim away from radiators. The fabric is untreated, so heat will shrink it — cold water and air drying keep the fit.
Paint-Splatter Pieces
The paint-splattered pieces are cut from the same selvedge denim and washed the same way. Two things to keep in mind:
- Always turn them inside out before washing, so the paint isn't rubbing against the basin or other garments.
- Don't scrub or pick at the paint, and never use bleach.
The paint cracks and fades unevenly along the seams and folds as you wear the piece. That's how it's meant to age — no two pairs finish the same way.
Give It Time
Because the material is untreated, it takes time for the denim to shape and stop feeling stiff. We recommend washing it no earlier than 3 months after first use.
